Letters from Paragon

Dear Dad,

Well, I'm glad to be rid of the Thunderfist powers and back to normal, but things happen when you spend three weeks in a recuperation tube! The radiation in Terra Volta must've been what I needed to kick start my own healing powers. Even my hair is back to normal!

But when I got back to my suite, one of the research guys had left me a video tape with a big bow on it. Apparantly this happened about a week and a half ago. Life in Paragon just gets stranger and stranger. Here's a transcript of the tape (the pertinent part, anyway):

EXERPT FROM "Wake Up Paragon!"; Sept. 3, 2006:

JENNIFER JANES: Welcome to Hero Watch. I'm your host, Jennifer Janes. Today's news is still no news. The Thunderfist search goes on.

On a sunny day three weeks ago on August 14, the hero known as Thunderfist entered the reactor at Terra Volta and was not seen again.

He was last seen in the company of several members of the Legion of Valor, along with a few solo heroes. When I spoke to Legion member Entropion, he claimed to know nothing about Thunderfist's disappearance, but told me he had been listed as "missing" on the Legion roster, despite previous claims that Thunderfist wasn't a member in the first place.

Something is fishy here in Paragon City, people! A great hero like Thunderfist missing, and apparantly no one is doing anything. Even his own team seems not to care. Thunderfist has been shrouded in mystery ever since this reporter noted his appearance in the process of taking out Dr. Vahzilok. While appearing friendly, he would refuse to say more to the press than "Just doing my job!" Something must be done! Please help by petitioning the City Manager for help. Paragon owes its safety to a man who apparantly sacrificed himself during a nuclear accident! At the very least, the truth must come out!

Now let's go to our Hero on the Street feature for reactions to Thunderfist's disappearance. Thanks for joining us...Deportment, is it? What's your take on our missing hero?

DEPORTMENT: Yes, it's Deportment, and I can't believe how you're going on and on about Thunderfist! You'd think he was the only hero in town to hear you talk!

JENNIFER JANES: Well, yes, but...

DEPORTMENT: And while you've been blathering about some "flash in the pan", you haven't said ONE WORD about a TRUE hero that's missing. Decorum's been MIA for WEEKS, and you media twits don't give him a second of your airtime. I've been searching constantly. What have YOU been doing? Why, I've got half a mind to come down to that studio and...

JENNIFER JANES: Aaaaand, thank you for that...interesting take on things, Deportment. Join us tomorrow on Hero Watch for more on the disappearance of one of Paragon City's major heroes. Is it a plot? What connection may the Legion of Valor have in this conspiracy? Did Thunderfist know too much about the inner workings of this mysterious and huge super-group? You can bet this reporter will ferret out those answers and bring them to you here on Hero Watch!

This is Jennifer Janes saying while the heroes watch over us, we'll be watching the heroes.

I tell you, this is just plain WEIRD! Why does this Jennifer Janes have such a high opinion of Thunderfist? Is she just trying to get ratings? And who is this Deportment and why is she wearing my costume?? First that Kid and now her? I'm going to have to try and track her down first thing. Sounds like she's been looking for me when no one else would.

I was a little disappointed that I could vanish like that and no one would notice, but then I did tell all the people I cared about, so I shouldn't be that surprised. I want more info on this Deportment woman, though. It's one thing to have ONE person emulating me, but it seems to be spreading. She sounds like one tough cookie to me, though. Hope she doesn't make good on her threat, or Ms. Janes may be in a heap of trouble. I'll write you again once I get more news.

Love, your son,

Jack "Decorum" Brinkman
