ORIGIN & HISTORY: In those northern foothills during the 14th Century, Tāo Cáo thought he'd found Xanadu, but instead found an alien artifact and horrifically painful surgical examination. Released more than a century later and filled with healing alien nanobots, he fled to the West, having many adventures across Russia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. He discovered that he did not age and healed at an amazing rate. He created many identities as he traveled, never settling long so as not to have to explain his agelessness. Always, he searched for others of his kind, virtual immortals for whom centuries dropped without noticing them.

But this search led to his doom, when his fate him to the Three Sisters of Kythira. He was used and controlled in their goal to use the power of their Well to create super-warriors for the coming battles between good and evil. Running, always running, to try and escape these fates but then the times would come, he would have no control. A little release of energy there, a little over here and more heroes would be created, completely against his will, until he wandered the countryside a broken paranoid homeless man.

It was during the Great Chronal Event of August 2006 that he was forced for a final time to release the Fates' energies. But the ambient chronal energy mixed with the magic, feeding back through the broken man, rendering him catatonic, his mind out of sync with time. As he struggled to regain control of his mind, a coping mechanism suggested by a television program gave him a rope to cling to. In the night, while he slept, the alien nanobots in his body transformed him into a freakish clown-like warrior.

With a bad joke on his lips and a cry of "BURMA SHAVE", he stalks the streets of Paragon City, a Crazed Crime Fighter, the Goofy Gladiator, the Master of Mirth and Mayhem, the Krazy Killer Klown with Klaws...Cut-Up! HAHAHAhahahaHAHAHAhahahaHAHAHA!

POWERS & ABILITIES: Cut-Up's body contains millions of self-replicating semi-sentient microscopic alien nanobots. These were injected into him to aid healing after being used as a surgical specimen by an alien artifact in the 14th Century. Cut-Up has no conscious control over these nanobots, although they do sometimes, over time, respond to his subconscious, often subtly altering his appearance to make him fit in better in his surroundings.

The main functions of these nanobots is to make his body work at top efficiency and to repair any damage, external or internal, that may arise. These functions make Cut-Up virtually indestructible and immortal, as well as greatly increasing his speed, agility, strength and endurance. His hyper-efficient leg muscles can propel him over rooftops with ease and he can run at nearly 100 MPH. In addition to keeping his body functioning, the nanobots can also construct various items from particles in the air. They are responsible for Cut-Up's primary weapon, groups of three retractable steel blades that project from the back of each wrist. They are also responsible for his appearance. Cut-Up wears no costume or mask, but has been physically transformed into his current state. At certain times the nanobots can also cause Cut-Up to "fade", blending him in with his surroundings to make him difficult to detect.

INSPIRATIONS: The Creeper, Jack-in-the-Box, Spider-Man, Blue Beetle, Steve Ditko, Lobo

Cut-Up is my homage to all those bouncing wise-cracking heroes usually associated with Steve Ditko ... Cut-Up makes heavy use of his origin taser in much the same fashion as Kurt Busiek's Jack-in-the-Box uses his electric noses ... the signature creepy laugh is straight from the Creeper ... Lobo's ultra-violence had me leaning more his way rather than the typical Wolverine homage for claws ... Cut-Up went from being a frivolous joke character with no background to the character of mine with the most depth and complicated background with the writing of "The Milk of Paradise".
