BATTLE CRY: C'MON H.A.R.O.L.D.!
ORIGIN & HISTORY: Donnie Gallagher was THRILLED when Dr. Aeon opened Architect Entertainment! Accompanied, at the insistence of his mother, by his "babysitting" robot, H.A.R.O.L.D. (Human Adolescent Restriction Of Liberties Device), every day after school he dons the special virtual reality equipment his Uncle Jack gave him for his 12th birthday and pretends to live the life of a super-hero!

POWERS & ABILITIES: Donnie has no powers outside of the Architect Entertainment virtual reality system, and is a normal adolescent boy. Once inside the system, his virtual reality boots, gloves and helmet activate, giving him various powers. Inside the system his boots make him faster and harder to hit. He can use his gloves to project various electrical blasts, or to project waves of cold. His gloves also include the ability to create objects out of ice, but so far he has only learned to create a sword. His helmet has a small computer with heads-up display, an MP3 player, infra-vision and a killswitch link to his companion robot, H.A.R.O.L.D.

H.A.R.O.L.D. is a product of the Best Buddy company, a small robotics firm in Dayton, Ohio started by the brothers Thomas and Richard Muffler. During the early '00s, they produced a line of babysitting robots for various age groups and functions. They didn't catch on and the firm had closed its doors in early 2007. When Architect Entertainment opened, the Muffler brothers repurposed some of their old stock to sell as companions in the system. They continue to do a moderately successful amount of business on Ebay. The robots follow their assigned child at all times. Their sole purpose is to monitor the child's life-signs and brainwaves to see if they become in danger of injury or undue distress. The robot has access to a "killswitch" that will eject it and the child from the virtual reality system should the readings lower to a certain threshold.

I had noticed some people complaining that heroes wouldn't have time to play virtual video games. I thought "Then who would?" and made Virtual Lad a civilian that did have time... H.A.R.O.L.D is an homage to H.E.R.B.I.E., the Fantastic Four's one-time robot babysitter...
